- Description
The rapid integration of GenAI into higher education makes it essential to cultivate students' evaluative judgement as they learn to use these tools effectively. The capacity to assess the quality of work, including AI-generated content depends on two core components: A clear grasp of what "quality" means within a specific context, paired with the capacity to apply that understanding when evaluating outputs. This interactive workshop, developed by James Tsatsaronis (The University of Sydney, Australia; La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia), Fran Van Den Berg and Reece Sophocleous (The University of Sydney, Australia), explores evaluative judgement and challenges participants' assumptions about quality, using the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons as a case study. Participants will engage with both human- and AI-generated content, examining how context shapes perceptions of quality. The session prompts reflection on strategies for building evaluative judgement skills, amid the challenges AI technologies pose in educational settings.
